Irkutsk Aviation Plant Completes New Hangar for Ground Testing and Customization of MC-21

More than 400 pieces of equipment are planned for purchase to modernize and expand the plant

The hangar for ground testing and customization of MC-21 and other facilities of the plant after expansion and modernization were shown to First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Governor of the Irkutsk Region Igor Kobzev, and First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Andrei Yatskin.

According to the press service of the Russian government, Andrei Boginsky, General Director of PJSC "Yakovlev" (part of PJSC "UAC" of the Rostec State Corporation), reported to the First Deputy Prime Minister on how the plant is preparing for the serial production of import-substituted MC-21.

According to him, it is planned to produce up to 36 aircraft per year, which is an average of 3 aircraft per month. As part of the modernization and expansion of the plant's production facilities:

  • planned the purchase of more than 400 units of equipment, a significant part of which has already been contracted or put into operation;
  • completed and put into operation a building for engineering services;
  • completed and launched a new workshop for the final assembly of military equipment, which allowed freeing up space for the MC-21 project;
  • a galvanizing coating workshop, a new mechanical assembly production workshop, and a hangar for ground airfield equipment are in varying degrees of readiness.

Earlier it became known that for airline pilots who plan to purchase MC-21, PJSC "Yakovlev" has already created a training program.
