Russian military forces are using T-55AM tanks as "roaming" 100-mm artillery guns.
They engage targets from concealed positions at a distance of up to 9 - 10 km, noted military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
The guns are adapted to fire Tula-made 100-mm 9M117M1-1 ATGMs at a distance of up to 6000 m with armor penetration of the tandem HEAT warhead up to 750 mm behind dynamic protection
T-55AM is a modernized version of the T-55 tank, developed in the 1950s.
The modernization provides increased firepower, mobility and survivability. The T-55AM received the "Volna" fire control system and more advanced communication equipment.
