The third-generation sterile hemostatic bandage with an X-ray contrast strip based on kaolin is Kalashnikov's own development for the Legionnaire individual first aid kit (APPI). The kit will be part of the third-generation Legionnaire combat gear being developed, and is already being actively tested by military personnel.
The hemostatic bandage has successfully passed all the necessary tests at the State Research and Testing Institute of Military Medicine of the Ministry of Defense of Russia and received registration certificate for medical device No. 2024/22443 from Rоszdravnadzor dated April 18, 2024. Its proven effectiveness in stopping arterial bleeding is 88% — this is the best indicator on the Russian market.
The tests proved that the use of the bandage from Kalashnikov gives the lowest percentage of recurrent bleeding within 30 minutes, generates fewer foci of inflammation at the stage of primary surgical treatment and complications at the hospital stage, is suitable for stopping cavity bleeding and can safely remain in the wound for more than 24 hours. The active substance — kaolin — does not cause thermal, toxic or other effects on the wound, including not changing its pH. The length of the Kalashnikov bandage is 3.75 m, which is due to the nature of the injuries in the area of the Special Military Operation and the global experience in the use of hemostatic bandages.
The dressing material is now officially recommended for inclusion in individual and group first-aid kits for military personnel, as well as in ambulance kits. Kalashnikov notes that its production facilities allow it to produce 150,000 bandages per month or 1,800,000 per year. This will fully cover the needs of both the Ministry of Defense and the civilian market segment.
