An Innovative Design Center has been created in the capital to solve problems related to the modernization of the Tu-214 medium-range passenger aircraft. The first meeting of its participants took place at the Tupolev PJSC site in Moscow. This was reported by the UAC press service.
According to Konstantin Timofeev, Deputy General Director of UAC, the Tu-214 has great potential for development. The aircraft received "a very good wing, certified engines, a high-quality fuselage and horizontal tail."
In terms of its flight performance, it turned out to be an almost ideal aircraft, but we will continue to work on improving it.
He set the engineers the task of reducing the weight of the Tu-214, while its length and width, as well as passenger capacity, should remain the same.
The current Tu-214 modernization program includes digitization of documentation, weight reduction of the airframe, transition to composite materials, and improvement of aircraft systems and interior.
As explained in the UAC press service, the participants of the Innovative Design Center (designers, technologists and economists) will be united into teams. Each of them will be assigned a curator who will help them go through all stages of work, from setting the task to introducing developments into production.
