The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation has published a government decree on the federal portal of draft regulatory legal acts on the procedure for equipping garbage trucks with satellite navigation equipment (ERA-GLONASS). The draft of the Cabinet is undergoing public discussion.
Currently, about 23 thousand vehicles are used in the field of municipal solid waste (MSW) management, including over 15 thousand garbage trucks.
In 2011, the Commission of the Customs Union decided that vehicles transporting MSW should be connected to satellite navigation. However, the procedure for its installation is still missing.
It is expected that ERA-GLONASS will help track the movement of garbage trucks. Thus, the authorities will prevent the unloading of waste outside landfills.
