Iran is strategically dependent on ground-based air defense systems, while maintaining a fleet of fighters, including Soviet MiG-29s. The Iranian Air Force has about 35 MiG-29s in service, writes Bulgarian Military.
The technical characteristics of the Iranian Air Force's MiG-29s give the fighters an advantage in the air. However, the aircraft have navigation and communication systems that have not been upgraded for a long time.
As Bulgarian Military writes, compared to the Israeli Air Force's F-35, the MiG-29 has outdated radar technology. At the same time, the Soviet fighter is comparable in characteristics to the F-15 and F-16.
MiG-29 fighters are still among the most formidable in Iran's arsenal, but are significantly inferior to the Israeli F-35s.
