A survey conducted by the Russian technology company Unisimka revealed that about 30% of Russians use several SIM cards simultaneously, which allows them to effectively separate personal and work tasks. At the same time, 86% of respondents still prefer traditional plastic SIM cards, while 12% combine them with electronic SIM cards (eSIM).
The study showed that 30% of respondents have between two and five SIM cards, and 8% of respondents have more than 10. Nevertheless, 60% of users continue to use only one SIM card on a permanent basis. The main reason for using multiple SIM cards is the need to separate personal and work life, which was noted by more than 30% of the survey participants. In addition, 12% of users want to be able to switch between operators to improve the quality of communication, and 6% use additional numbers for anonymity.
Environmental aspects are also becoming important factors in the transition to eSIM. Almost 19% of respondents note that they are thinking about the environment and do not want to use plastic cards, while about 17% prefer the convenience associated with using eSIM. This technology allows you to switch numbers without any hassle through the smartphone settings, unlike physical cards that need to be removed.
About 1 million eSIMs have been issued in Russia. One of the barriers to their distribution is the lack of compatible smartphones among users, since only phones costing more than 25,000 rubles often have built-in eSIM support. At the same time, 70% of devices need a special adapter module to connect to this technology, which slows down the process of switching to a more modern SIM card format.
