A new class of "patchwork" materials has been developed at the National Research University "Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology" (NRU MIET), which provides high capacitance and durability of the capacitor.
The structure of materials of the new type suggests the coexistence of two or more phases ("patches") with different types of electrical interaction between ions - these are the so-called relaxors. The coexistence of several such "patches" allows creating a metastable structural state, which implies a high sensitivity of these materials to an external electromagnetic field, temperature and mechanical pressure.
To create a new type of material, scientists used compounds of bismuth, samarium, titanium and iron with oxygen. The development can be used at high temperatures. This will allow creating pressure sensors, acceleration sensors, electromagnetic radiation sensors and capacitors with high capacitance.
It is expected that the new material will improve the characteristics of electrotechnical devices.
Earlier www1.ru reported that in Moscow developed a material for superconductors.
