Russian artillerymen at the forefront are actively using the 152-mm 2S5 "Hyacinth-S" self-propelled gun. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation showed footage of the combat work of the system.
The complex is designed to destroy weapons, military equipment and enemy manpower. Serial production started in 1976, the self-propelled gun is made according to a turretless scheme.
The welded armored hull provides anti-splinter and anti-bullet protection for internal equipment and crew. A folding support plate and bulldozer equipment for self-entrenching are mounted on the hull. The power plant is a multi-fuel diesel engine with water cooling.
The 2A37 gun with semi-automatic loading is equipped with a slotted muzzle brake. The gun's ammunition includes separate-case rounds with high-explosive fragmentation projectiles. The sighting devices consist of an OP4M-91A optical sight and a D726-45 mechanical sight with a PG-1M gun panorama. When firing, the gunner is outside the armored hull. A 7.62-mm PKT machine gun is also installed on the commander's turret.
