«AEM-Spetsstal» employees began making blanks for the reactor of the nuclear icebreaker «Leningrad»

The icebreaker was laid down in January 2024

At «AEM-Spetsstal» (part of Rosatom), the processing of metallurgical blanks for the RITM-200 reactor vessel has begun. This was reported by the press service of the state corporation.

They will be further used to manufacture the reactor plant vessel for the universal nuclear icebreaker «Leningrad» of Project 22220, laid down in January 2024.

«Leningrad» is the fifth serial nuclear icebreaker of Project 22220. The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin took part in its laying ceremony, which took place on January 26 at the Baltic Shipyard.

It is expected that «Leningrad» will assist in piloting ships along the Northern Sea Route. The construction of icebreakers is part of a large program for the development of Arctic shipbuilding. In the near future, Russia will need a large number of high ice class cargo ships.
