Akkuyu NPP personnel have installed the outer containment (OC) dome on Unit 1. The Liebherr LR 13000 crane, made by a German-Swiss company, was used in the work, the nuclear facility being constructed according to the Russian project, the press service reported.
More than 30 people took part in the installation of the 35 m diameter dome, working at the height of a twenty-story building. The process took about 6 hours. Now the power unit is protected from hurricanes, earthquakes and aircraft crashes.
The OC dome is an important barrier of the deep-echeloned defense of a nuclear power plant. Modern power units, which are being built according to the Russian project, are equipped with internal and external shells.
The OC dome is constructed in several stages: elements of metal tiers are manufactured, a frame is formed by welding them. Then the frame is mounted in the design position and poured with concrete mortar. As a result, the thickness of the dome walls after concreting is 1.5 m.
