В зоне ПВО: два российских самолета Ил-38 перехватили вблизи Аляски

NORAD: This is the Fourth Incident Involving Russian Aerospace Forces Aircraft in the Past Week

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) reported on September 15 the detection of Russian Il-38 military aircraft near the coast of Alaska, marking the fourth such incident in the past week, writes Eurasian Times.

According to the agency, the Il-38 was tracked while performing tasks in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone. NORAD stated that the aircraft did not pose an immediate threat.

Alaska is a crucial buffer zone where foreign aircraft must be identified to ensure national security. In this region, any unidentified military activity requires close monitoring.

NORAD uses a multi-layered defense network, including satellites, radars, and aviation, to track aircraft from other countries. The command emphasized that the activity of Russian aircraft indicates growing tensions between the United States and Russia.

Following one such incident off the coast of Alaska, NORAD deployed paratroopers, radar units, and at least one M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) to Shemya Island.

This is where the advanced COBRA DANE radar system, operated by the U.S. Space Force, is located, which is needed to track ballistic missiles. These maneuvers were a response by Russia and China to patrols near Alaska in July.
