The Minister of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, stated that scientific research on the development of 6G communication standards will begin in Russia in 2025. The work will be carried out under the national project "Data Economy". Friendly countries will be involved in it.

It is worth recalling that at the end of 2023, a strategy for the development of the communications industry was adopted. According to it, 5G and 6G standard equipment should be operational by 2030 and 2035, respectively.
In September 2022, Russian journalists wrote that by 2025, the FGBU NIIR organization associated with the Ministry of Digital Development and Skoltech want to receive 30 billion rubles for research into the 6G communication standard. At the same time, Rostec stated that developments on the 6G standard are at an initial stage.
It should be noted that in Russia, 5G networks are not used for commercial operation. The fact is that the required frequency range of 3.4-3.8 GHz is occupied by special services. 6G communication should operate at frequencies of 95 GHz – 3 THz. So far, the terahertz range has not been allocated to anyone.
