The Russian Aerospace Forces have begun to receive updated FAB aerial bombs, according to the Telegram channel Mash.
The aerial bombs were produced on the basis of old warheads for the decommissioned MiG-25RB fighter-bomber, with improved aerodynamics and enlarged wings. For several years, the blanks gathered dust in warehouses, and now they will fly to a range of up to 85 km.
At the same time, the current flight range of the lightest FAB-500 is up to 50–60 kilometers, and this figure has been increased by 25%.
The main advantages of the new product are the reduced risk of damage to the FAB carrier and the range of destruction. Now bombers will be able to drop tsar bombs further from the line of combat contact, without falling into the zone of destruction of enemy air defense.
Earlier, military expert Alexei Leonkov explained the uniqueness of Russian aerial bombs with UMPC. According to him, the Patriot, IRIS-T and SAMP-T air defense systems cannot track these gliding munitions.
