Russia is sending one of its intercontinental supersonic strategic bomber-missile carriers with variable-sweep wings, the Tu-160, to the Republic of South Africa. The aircraft will be showcased at the largest air show, writes Bulgarian Military.
The Africa Aerospace and Defense 2024 exhibition will be held in Pretoria from September 8 to 22. Ahead of the event, a delegation of Russian military personnel visited the airport to organize the arrival of the Tu-160.
Long-range bombers are among the most modern in Russia's arsenal. Moscow plans to deepen defense ties with South Africa, a key BRICS ally. By demonstrating the Tu-160, Russia is showcasing itself as a reliable military partner for other African countries.
According to Bulgarian Military, a number of contracts are expected to be signed at the exhibition. It is possible that representatives of other states will be interested in the Tu-160.
Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) is the only aerospace and defense exhibition in Africa that is both a trade fair and an airshow venue. Russia, China, Germany, Morocco, the UAE, Finland, the Czech Republic, France, and other countries will participate.
