The first domestic laser scanner for the vehicle weighing and dimension control system was developed by a subsidiary of the Schwabe holding of the state corporation, the Polyus Research Institute named after M. F. Stelmakh. The customer was the country's largest manufacturer of weighing and dimension control systems with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The scanner consists of a laser emitter, a photodetector, and a scanning module enclosed in a single housing. It is capable of measuring the dimensions of any vehicle moving at speeds up to 100 km/h with an accuracy of up to 20 mm. The development has already successfully passed the first six-month stage of testing as part of a real weighing and dimension control system.
After the final tests, Rostec will begin mass production of the new product. Many regions of Russia are eagerly awaiting the scanners to equip their highways under the national project "Safe Quality Roads."
For now, mostly scanners from Europe can be found on Russian roads. The new domestic production will allow Russia to cover up to 80% of the market within the country; there is no talk of exports, even to friendly countries, yet.
