The Russian Tu-214R radio-technical and optoelectronic reconnaissance aircraft and the Su-34M multi-functional front-line supersonic fighter-bomber have broad capabilities for conducting reconnaissance on the battlefield. This was pointed out by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
According to him, to uncover armored vehicles, barrel artillery, and operational-tactical complexes disguised in a forest area, it is necessary to use the Tu-214R with onboard phased array radars MRK-411.
Containerized radar reconnaissance systems "Sych" based on the "Pika-M" radar system, placed on the suspensions of the Su-34M and capable of detecting and classifying large disguised ground objects of the enemy in synthetic aperture mode at a distance of up to 250 km, as well as targets such as self-propelled artillery units and a tank platoon at a distance of up to 170 km, will also help.
According to information from open sources, the radar range in active mode on the Tu-214R is estimated at 250 km. In passive radio-technical reconnaissance mode, the detection range of objects by their own radio emission is up to 400 km.
In the variant of using the Su-34M as a reconnaissance aircraft, the use of suspended equipment is provided - the suspended universal reconnaissance container (UKR) "Sych", which is developed in three versions, depending on the type of reconnaissance: optical, radar and radio-technical.
