Russia has refused to cooperate with China on the high-speed rail (HSR) construction project and has decided to implement this strategically important project on its own. This was reported by the Chinese portal Baijiahao.
Chinese companies, which expected to receive multi-billion dollar contracts, were surprised by this decision. Initially, the reasons for the refusal were not understood in China, but later it was concluded that Russia is seeking to independently master the necessary technologies in order to use them in other projects.
One possible reason for the breakdown in cooperation may be disagreements on technology transfer issues. China was probably not ready to fully share its technologies with Russia, which could be an obstacle to further cooperation.
Now, the Railway Transport Engineering Center (RTEC) is developing trains for HSR, and production is entrusted to the Urals Locomotives plant (Sinara) in Verkhnyaya Pyshma (Sverdlovsk Region).
It is expected that Russian trains will be able to accelerate to 400 km/h. The cost of one train will be about 5.3 billion rubles. It is planned to spend 148 billion rubles on the purchase of the first batch of 28 trains.
