Specialists of the Ruselectronics holding (part of Rostec) have developed a complex for monitoring the landing of aircraft on the decks of aircraft carriers. Thanks to the equipment, the wear of the arresting gear cables will be reduced, and the safety level of pilots will increase, the holding's press service reported.
The system was invented by engineers at the Television Research Institute. It slows down the speed of the aircraft after touching the deck and allows adjusting the tension of the arresting gear cable (braking mechanism).
This will increase the cable's resistance to abrasion, and also reduce the pilot's overload during landing by approximately 30%.
The equipment can be used on Russia's only aircraft carrier «Admiral Kuznetsov», as well as on the aircraft carriers «Vikramaditya» and «Vikrant» of the Indian Navy.
According to Alexey Nikitin, General Director of the Television Research Institute, an overload of more than 4G occurs during landing. Both the pilot and the equipment experience a strong impact, with maximum forces occurring in the 2-3 seconds of braking. It is expected that the holding's development will reduce the impact of negative factors on the pilot's health.
