The head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, spoke about the improvement of the characteristics of the famous Russian flamethrower system on the sidelines of the Army-2024 forum. According to him, after front-line testing and modernization, «Tosochka» «[...] has already passed the «childhood period», we have eliminated most of the shortcomings [now], [...] [now it] shoots further». The previously declared range of «Tosochka» was about 20 km, Kirillov did not specify how much it had changed.
However, he noted that the improvement of the flamethrower system became possible due to the fact that the modernization time for radiation, chemical and biological protection equipment has been reduced to two to three months.
We react faster to what the troops need. For example, smoke bombs for instant deployment are required to mask maneuverable actions. If earlier [...] [it would have taken] years for research and development work, now it is very fast. We interact with JSC Tekhnodinamika on Tosochka issues, and with Uralvagonzavod on TOS-1 Solntsepek issues - issues are resolved in two to three months.
Kirillov noted that the demonstration of promising equipment for the NBC protection of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is one of the areas of presence at the forum. A complex of radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance vehicles, laboratory equipment, and biological reconnaissance devices used jointly with the FMBA were also exhibited there.
In addition, at Army-2024, a VR simulator for the TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy flamethrower system from the Era Virtual Training Systems company was shown for the first time. The structure is one of the portfolio companies of the Era Foundation.
