Test rides of the self-driving tram with passengers will begin in September. The full launch of the new transport is planned before the end of 2025, said the head of the Moscow Department of Transport, Maxim Lixutov.
The tram will be controlled automatically, and the driver will monitor its actions.
The software for the self-driving tram is being developed by employees of the Moscow Metro at the Development Center in Kuntsevo. During the tests, the artificial intelligence worked without errors, and as a result, the tram was not involved in a single accident.
Moscow was the first in Russia to introduce an experimental legal regime for launching a self-driving tram. The corresponding document was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
