SAMs differ in range and mobility

Iran has requested air defense systems from Russia, Western media write. Journalists from Bulgarian Military suggested that Moscow could supply Tehran with S-300 «Favorit» or S-400 «Triumph» anti-aircraft missile systems. One of the key differences between the two systems is their range. The S-300 strikes at 150-200 km, while the S-400 hits targets at a range of up to 400 km.

Another significant difference lies in the types of missiles used by the SAM system. The S-300 uses 5V55 and 48N6 series missiles, which are effective against various aerial threats. However, the S-400 uses a more diverse set of missiles, including 48N6, 9M96, and long-range 40N6 missiles. This versatility allows the S-400 to engage multiple types of targets simultaneously, located at different distances.

According to Bulgarian Military, the S-400 has a more advanced radar than the S-300. The equipment is capable of detecting targets at greater distances.

Journalists of the publication believe that the S-400 is a more mobile complex than the S-300. The SAM system quickly changes position and can be quickly deployed before striking.

However, the S-400 is not what Russian generals have hoped for in recent years. Perhaps many of the complex's characteristics were only on paper.
