In honor of the 85th anniversary of VDNKh, the Moscow authorities have opened access to the VDNKh metaverse in pilot mode for all Internet users in Russia. This was reported by the press service of the Department of Information Technology of the city of Moscow.
"MetaVDNKh" is a virtual copy of the exhibition, created on the "Digital Twin of the City of Moscow" platform using gaming industry technologies. In it, you can chat with friends, visit pavilions, and even go on unique excursions that allow you to travel through time, visit space, look into a nuclear reactor, and find yourself on a film set. To get into the metaverse, you only need a computer and a stable Internet connection.
The "MetaVDNKh" project was created by the Moscow Department of Information Technology with the support of the Internet Development Institute (IRI). It is based on a 3D model of the city's digital twin, worked out with the smallest details of the exposition. The metaverse recreates more than 80 objects and 400 exhibits, and also provides various visit scenarios taking into account the real time of day.
Two formats of online excursions are available on the "MetaVDNKh" website: in free mode and in the company of a guide — a digital double of the singer Vanya Dmitrienko. Both scenarios require pre-registration to ensure a comfortable stay for users and to allow developers to evaluate the system.
The metaverse is only available on a personal computer. This allows you to better familiarize yourself with the exposition, examine all the elements in detail and experience the immersion effect. The digital avatar is controlled using a computer mouse and keyboard, similar to computer games.
Guests of the metaverse can visit several pavilions, including the world's largest "Cosmos" pavilion with digitized samples of aircraft and space technology, and pavilion No. 1 "Central". A unique excursion with gamified content has been developed in the "Cosmos" pavilion and the "Atom" museum.
To access "MetaVDNKh", you need to log in to the project website using your mos.ru portal account and choose a suitable time. Authorization is not required if you download the metaverse to your computer.
In the future, "MetaVDNKh" may become the basis for a whole complex of educational and tourist digital projects, as well as a platform for online events organized by the users themselves.
