Очистит от углекислого газа в 60 раз лучше: в России создали мембрану для снижения уровня CO2

It is planned to be used for cleaning exhaust gases at industrial enterprises

A polymer membrane has been created in Russia that allows approximately 60 times more carbon dioxide to pass through than nitrogen and other substances. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Science Foundation (RSF).

The innovation can be used to clean exhaust gases from CO2 at industrial enterprises.

The structure of the new polymer is simple and easy to obtain, while membranes can be created from petroleum refining products and traditional acrylic monomers, making them accessible. Their introduction into gas exhaust systems will help reduce the greenhouse effect caused by emissions from thermal power plants and other enterprises.

The new membrane is a thin polymer film. It consists of one of the norbornene derivatives and a hydrocarbon molecule with an unusual three-dimensional structure.

Through research, scientists have found that norbornene molecules accelerate the interaction of the polymer with CO2 molecules. At the same time, they do not affect the behavior of other gases, such as methane and nitrogen, but allow CO2 to pass through 60 times more actively.

Polynorbornene films are planned to be used to create filters. They will separate carbon dioxide from the remaining components of the air mixture or exhaust gases of industrial enterprises and power plants.

The created membranes also have better performance characteristics than analogues based on cellulose acetate.

Earlier www1.ru reported that special farms will appear in Russia to reduce CO₂.
