A number of large Russian construction companies may face problems with the deadlines for the delivery of their facilities. The popular American automated design system for construction, engineering and industrial design Autodesk BIM 360 has begun to block the accounts of Russian companies. When blocked, access to project documentation in the cloud is lost forever. The fact is that the company officially left Russia in 2022, but many Russian developers continued to work with Autodesk BIM 360 via VPN, or bought Autodesk licenses through Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries. But now the American developer is eliminating this loophole.
As RBC sources among developers reported, some companies no longer have access to models that were in the encrypted cloud storage. Autodesk, as the product developer, can either erase this data, but leave the companies' accounts, or destroy the companies' profiles completely.
If Russian designers or developers kept technical document management only there, and project data disappears, then there are risks with postponing the deadlines for the delivery of the construction object or fulfilling obligations under the contract for design and survey work. This is fraught with millions of damages.
However, according to the assessment of the engineering software developer Ascon, so far only a minimum of 30% of developers have begun to use domestic software. It does not cover all needs, and technologically it is still slightly behind the Western solutions of companies that have imposed sanctions against Russia or left it as a business platform. Nevertheless, it will be necessary to switch to Russian CAD software. The share of Russian software in the field of automation systems for design and product lifecycle management should grow by 2030 and amount to as much as 90%. This import substitution is laid down in the roadmap of the new industrial software, which was approved by the Cabinet in December 2022.
