Обещанного три года ждут: новые локомотивы на газе и водороде появятся в России в 2027-2038 году

The timing of the Russian Railways project has been pushed back again

Russian Railways (RZD) plans to launch new trains powered by gas and hydrogen fuel between 2027 and 2028, the company's press service reported.

The information was announced in the company's 2023 annual report.

The implementation of projects for the introduction of rolling stock using gas and hydrogen fuel is planned for the period from 2027 to 2028.
Message from the report of Russian Railways

Back in April 2023, Oleg Valinsky, Deputy General Director of RZD, announced that a freight locomotive powered by hydrogen fuel could appear in 2026. The manufacturer is Rosatom and Transmashholding (TMH).

It was also noted that the start of passenger transportation using hydrogen-powered trains is scheduled for the end of 2025, and Sakhalin was even chosen as a pilot region for the new tractors.

It is worth noting that Rusatom Overseas planned to build a hydrogen production plant in Sakhalin in cooperation with the French company Air Liquide. However, the partnership was canceled due to sanctions.

None of the project participants reported on the details of its further implementation. But the deadlines have been pushed back by several more years.
