A core catcher (melt localization device) for power unit No. 3 has been delivered to the construction site of the El Dabaa NPP in Egypt. The vessel with the equipment components left the port of Novorossiysk and reached its destination in 6 days, the Rosatom State Corporation press service reported.
The customer of the project is the Egyptian Atomic Power Plants Authority. According to Alexey Kononenko, the El Dabaa NPP construction project director, the "melt trap" was delivered ahead of schedule. The total weight of the cargo was more than 480 tons, and the weight of the assembled "melt trap" body was about 150 tons.
And already in October, we face the task of implementing another key event — its installation at power unit No. 3.
El Dabaa is the first NPP under construction in Egypt. It is being built by Rosatom specialists on the country's coast, 3.5 km from the Mediterranean Sea.
