Russian military personnel have transformed the main gun of the BMP-1 into a towed 73-mm gun. They cut out part of the structure and mounted the smoothbore "Grom" on a base that can be quickly assembled from several parts, according to the Telegram channel @Divannyevoini.
The artillery system was named 2S8, and it has already been tested at one of the training grounds. The gun demonstrated a high rate of fire. According to the source, it is capable of firing up to six to eight rounds per minute on an infantry fighting vehicle.
Both PG-15V HEAT and OG-15V high-explosive fragmentation rounds are used. The first munition has a maximum range of 1300 m, while the second has a range of 4400 m.
To tow the gun, the military uses a self-made tractor capable of transporting ammunition and the crew.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that an American ATACMS guidance system fell into the hands of Russian specialists. They began studying the guidance and flight correction systems.
