Designer Abdulov: Certain Elements Simplify the Operation of the American IFV

Russian specialists are carefully examining trophy samples of equipment from NATO countries. They assess the development of engineering thought and adopt some developments. Chief Designer of JSC «Special Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering» (JSC «SKBM» – the leading organization in Russia for the design of IFVs) Sergei Abdulov evaluated the American-made M2 Bradley IFV, presented at the exhibition of trophy equipment on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow.

The author of the program «Military Acceptance», Alexey Egorov, asked Abdulov, «what ideas he drew», examining the Bradley IFV. According to the designer, the American combat vehicle is very convenient to operate.

This applies to certain small elements that simplify the operation of the product. No breakthrough technologies were used here. The M2 Bradley IFV is old.

The main weapon of the M2 Bradley IFV is a 25 mm M242 Bushmaster automatic cannon. Our BMP-3 has a 30-mm 2A72 automatic cannon and a 100-mm rifled semi-automatic gun-launcher. No one in the world puts such a gun on an IFV, and this is the uniqueness of the Russian BMP-3. It performs two functions: as an IFV and as mobile artillery, which allows it to suppress tanks.
