The Russian Kurganets-25 infantry fighting vehicle remains in demand among the assault units of the Armed Forces. Military expert Evgeny Damantsev revealed the qualities of this type of equipment.
He pointed out that the heavy spaced metal-ceramic armor of the side projections, including the overall side modules of passive armor, as well as the large physical size of the lower armor plate, provide protection of the behind-armor space in the front projection from kinetic projectiles of 80 - 120 mm caliber at safe maneuvering angles of +/- 20 degrees.
Unlike the BMP-3M, reliable protection is provided against 25-mm armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) M791 and M919 projectiles with uranium cores. At distances over 2500 - 3000 m, partial protection against 40-mm APFSDS is provided.
The expert noted that the Epoch uninhabited combat module on the Kurganets-BM model is comparable in terms of firepower to the Berezhok combat module for equipping the BMP-2M.
The Kurganets is equipped with a 30-mm 2A42 automatic cannon, as well as two paired transport and launch modules with 4 ready-to-use 9M133M-2/FM-3 ATGMs of the Kornet complex.
In addition, the Epoch has two more advanced multispectral optoelectronic sighting systems for the gunner-operator and commander.
The combat weight of the vehicle is about 25 - 27 tons with amphibious capabilities and a troop compartment for 8 people.
