Overall, Yandex Browser detected seven times more phishing sites than other foreign browsers

The Russian GC Softline has studied how popular browsers can save users from phishing sites, through which fraudsters try to steal user data. Chrome, Yandex Browser, Firefox, Opera, Edge, and Safari participated in the experiment.

Testing was conducted on PCs with the Windows operating system and on mobile phones on Android and iOS. Browsers had to analyze 100 newly discovered sites in Runet for data theft with recently registered domains and recognize their danger to users.

Yandex Browser took first place: it identified seven times more phishing sites than other browsers. On computers with Windows, it saw 69 threats, on mobile devices with Android — 52, on iOS — 51.

The second most effective solution was Chrome-based with a phishing protection extension enabled on the PC, which identified 49 threats. Other browsers without an additional extension notified about phishing sites much less frequently: Chrome, on average across all platforms, identified nine unscrupulous Internet pages, Firefox and Edge — five, Opera — three. Safari was the worst at identifying fraudulent resources, identifying only two threats out of 100. The study also showed that, depending on the platform, the same browser may react differently to the same site.

The statistics only took into account the browsers' reactions to phishing resources. Reactions to an unsecured connection were excluded.
