Мессенджер Slaсk заблокирует учётные записи пользователей из России

The service will stop serving Russian accounts within 30 days

Corporate messenger Slack (owned by Salesforce) has announced the blocking of Russian user accounts within 30 days. The measures were taken in connection with the new package of sanctions imposed by the United States against Russia on June 12, 2024.

It should be noted that the purpose of the sanctions was to end the dependence of the Russian military-industrial complex on foreign IT systems. The U.S. Department of the Treasury plans to restrict the Russian military-industrial complex's access to certain software and IT services. This decision will take effect on September 12 of this year. According to the new rules, it will be prohibited in Russia to provide consulting and design services in the field of IT, as well as IT support services and cloud services for software used in enterprise management, design and production.

Obviously, the changes affected not only large companies associated with the military-industrial complex, but also ordinary users.

The messenger developer, in its address to Russian users, explained its decision by complying with the laws on sanctions and export controls of the United States, the European Union and other applicable jurisdictions.

Our data indicates that your account is based in Russia, is predominantly used by users from Russia, or is otherwise associated with distribution in Russia. Unfortunately, in accordance with applicable law, we are forced to suspend your account, and will suspend it in 30 days

According to Pavel Potekhin, Executive Director of MTS Link, "such letters were sent, among others, to companies that purchased a license to use Slack in other countries."

Earlier, Salesforce (the owner of Slack) had already threatened to stop working in Russia. The first warning was announced on March 7, 2022, without directly mentioning the messenger.

Later, Slack announced the introduction of a number of restrictions for customers from Russia. In June 2023, the company discontinued support for the Russian language on the platform.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russian automakers were again sanctioned by the United States.
