Scientists from South Ural State University (SUSU) have started developing Russia's first quantum infrared microscope, according to Anna Paterova, a senior researcher at the "Quantum Engineering of Light" laboratory at SUSU.
The future microscope will transmit high-quality images of materials in the infrared spectrum.
The new microscope will show scientists a picture with less distortion (noise) than now, since during the research we will be able to overcome the limitations of classical infrared spectroscopy. Due to this, for example, the device can be effectively used to search for and identify gas leaks.
According to her, studying materials with an infrared microscope makes it possible to effectively use the device in the fields of medicine, pharmaceuticals, industry, and various branches of science. The research is planned to be carried out over the next two years.
