"Mini-NATO" in the APR

The United States has recently been actively expanding its influence in the Asia-Pacific region, using regional players, including Japan and the Philippines, for this purpose. According to Leonid Gamza, an employee of the Center for Asia-Pacific Studies, Washington is striving to create a "mini-NATO" in this part of the planet.

According to the expert, since the end of 2023, the United States, Japan, and the Philippines have begun conducting joint exercises. The new agreement between the three countries provides for the participation of Japanese and Filipino sailors in "additional training and synchronization of actions" on US Navy ships. It is expected that in 2025, the maneuvers will take place in the territorial waters of Japan.
