The experienced tank "Object 292" with the LP-83 gun, which was developed in the 80s by specialists from KB-3 "Kirov Plant" (JSC "Spetsmash") and VNII "Transmash", needs to be given a second life. The combat vehicle could strike enemy fortifications with various artillery shells, including the latest ZOF95 "Krasnopol-M2". This opinion was expressed by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
A promising gun, with 1.5 times more muzzle energy and ballistics compared to standard 2A46M-1 guns, would provide new armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot projectiles with elongated cores with armor penetration at the level of 950 - 1100 mm.
Created on the chassis of the T-80BV, the prototype could reach speeds of up to 85 km/h on the highway. Thus, it would retain the status of "La Manche tanks" (Western analysts in the eighties calculated that "Soviet tank hordes" could reach the English Channel in just 5 days, so high-speed tanks became known as "La Manche tanks" - ed. www1.ru).
However, due to lack of funding, the project was frozen, and the development of the rifled version of the LP-83 gun (152 mm caliber) was stopped. The only sample of "Object 292" was sent to the exhibition stand of the Technical Center of Patriot Park, where it remains to this day.
Gaining operational combat readiness of a vehicle with such a gun would allow even more effective engagement of enemy equipment.
