Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin, within the SPIEF, spoke about the plans of the Moskvich plant, which is working on its own automotive platform. According to the capital's mayor, the cars produced at the plant are "already not a purely Chinese car", and the level of localization will increase.
The automotive market is very competitive. In order to have our own car manufacturers, we need to deal with this market, protect it.
The Mayor noted that the Moskvich plant is working on the second level of localization of car production, as the company has switched to small-node assembly of cars. In addition, the plant is preparing its own platform. However, Sobyanin did not disclose any details.
Moskvich has every opportunity to produce its own car – either fully localized, or even its own car.
It should be reminded that earlier the General Director of PJSC KAMAZ, Sergey Kogogin, criticized Chinese car manufacturers. The top manager's complaint is that before entering the Russian market, they did not order tests from KAMAZ or AvtoVAZ to check how cars are adapted to Russian conditions. Moskvich also got it, which Kogogin also called not prepared for operation in Russia.
