President Vladimir Putin, during his speech at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2024), did not rule out adjustments to the nuclear doctrine, which involves the use of nuclear weapons.
The Russian leader reminded the meeting participants that, according to the doctrine, nuclear weapons can be used in an "exceptional case" when it comes to a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. However, Putin believes that there is no such need now.
We are closely watching what is happening in the world, around us, and we do not rule out making some changes to this doctrine.
The President also asked those present not to discuss the topic of nuclear weapons.
Prior to that, Putin reproached Western countries for accusing Russia of allegedly "waving a nuclear club." However, it is the journalists who are constantly trying to get the head of state to talk about the possible use of nuclear weapons.
