Преемница «Солнцепека» и «Тосочки» ТОС-3 «Дракон» может получить новые боеприпасы

Military expert Dmitry Kornev spoke about the capabilities and new ammunition for the TOS-3 "Dragon"

The new heavy flamethrower system TOS-3 "Dragon", which became the successor to the TOS-1A "Solntsepek" and TOS-2 "Tosochka", promises significant improvements thanks to new ammunition and design improvements. Dmitry Kornev, editor of the Military Russia portal, shared his assessment of the new system's capabilities in an interview with Izvestia.

The main difference between the TOS-3 is the reduced number of guides for launching rockets, which have become longer. There is still no accurate information about which chassis the "Dragon" is on, but the photo shows that the tracked chassis of the new system is equipped with "Relikt" dynamic protection blocks, and the guide package is covered with lattice screens to protect against kamikaze drones and projectiles dropped from drones.

Unlike its predecessors, the TOS-3 "Dragon" received fewer guides. Over the years and with new versions, their number has decreased; the Soviet TOS-1 "Buratino" had 30, the Russian TOS-1A "Solntsepek" had 24, and the wheeled TOS-2 "Tosochka" already had 18. Experts counted only 15 missile launch guides for the TOS-3 "Dragon". In addition, they noted that these guides have become longer. This is a key change that indicates that the new machine may be significantly different from its previous models.

The reduction in the number of guides suggests that even this amount of ammunition will be enough to complete the combat mission. This may indicate an improvement in accuracy.

The expert also pointed out the possibility of using new thermobaric shells with more efficient fuel, which will increase the firing range of the TOS-3. According to Kornev, the elongated guides confirm the use of these new shells.

As a reminder, the TOS-3 "Dragon" was first presented at an event dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the first Guards mobile brigade of radiation, chemical and biological protection in the Saratov region. TWZ suggests that the new system combines the protection of "Solntsepek" and the range of "Tosochka".

The Ministry of Defense noted that the TOS-3 has already begun to be supplied to the Russian army. The German newspaper Die Welt reacted to the appearance of the TOS-3 "Dragon" in Russia in its article entitled "With this terrible weapon, Russia is reaching a new level".
