Russia has overtaken the US and China in the number of local mobile operating systems (OSs). There are 6 OSs on the market, with 3 more preparing to launch.
The most well-known of these is considered to be "Aurora," developed on the basis of the Finnish Sailfish OS.

Experts say that these OSs can only compete with Android in niche segments. This is because there are not enough devices on the market that run on them.
According to "F+tech/Marvel," in the first quarter of 2023, smartphones running Android accounted for 89.6%. The remaining share was accounted for by iOS. The number of smartphones running Russian OSs was equal to the statistical error.
NetiMobile mobile development studio co-founder Nabi Ibatulin stated that the advantage of Russian OSs is their high level of security. However, to attract users, new applications need to be created for this software.
Another expert cited the popular Huawei HarmonyOS as an example. In his opinion, if Russian developers follow the path of the Chinese company, their products have a future. Creating an ecosystem is not an easy task, but over time it will bear fruit, he concluded.
