Toyota Mega Cruiser SUVs are used in small numbers in the Russian army. Some vehicles are used in the civilian version, others are converted for military needs.
For example, one version has been used by the military since 2022. They placed a ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun in the back of the vehicle. According to the Ministry of Defense, this right-hand drive vehicle was used by paratrooper anti-aircraft gunners to cover airborne units from air attack by a ZU-23-2 crew.
As a reminder, the ZU-23-2 is a twin 23 mm anti-aircraft gun. In Soviet times, this weapon was actively used in the army on trucks, for example, during the Afghan war, to provide fire cover for convoys.
Toyota Mega Cruiser is a full-size SUV that was produced from 1995 to 2002. It had civilian and military versions. It was sold only in the Japanese domestic market. The all-wheel drive vehicle was equipped with a 4.1-liter turbodiesel and a four-speed automatic transmission.
