The Russian company "Bureau 1440" has completed testing of domestic laser inter-satellite communication, and the tests were deemed successful.
On May 30, 2024, we completed the first series of tests of our own laser inter-satellite communication development. More than 200 GB were transmitted at a speed of 10 Gbit/sec between spacecraft at a distance of more than 30 km from each other.
The company noted that the average bit error rate (BER) was less than 10e^-11, which is comparable to fiber optic communication lines.
The Ministry of Digital Development added that thanks to this technology, satellite internet and communications will be available without interruption in the most remote parts of the country, as well as where it is not possible to place ground base stations.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Reshetnev satellites in 2023 provided communication and internet to 80 settlements in Russia. By the end of 2024, satellite television will appear in another 50 settlements located in remote areas of the country.
