Russian Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems on the front line have been protected from fragments and shrapnel of enemy shells with special rubber liners. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The military said that rubber protection is installed on the sides of the vehicle. After the shells explode, the shrapnel gets stuck in the coating and does not reach the hull. The crew deliberately left one of the rather large fragments stuck in the armor of the combat vehicle for good luck.
The thickness of the rubber sheets is sufficient to hold back fragments or shrapnel. It holds small arms 100%. There are also options for welding a grate and laying bags of sand, or welding with sheet iron.
The military added that the crew's work is very intense. It is structured as follows: the operator sits at the workplace and looks for air targets. After detection, he gives a command and points the cursor at it. The head of the crew takes the target for tracking, determines its type and decides whether to engage/not engage.
Earlier, the characteristics of the Russian Tor-E2 air defense system became known. The complex can defend military and civilian facilities from attacks by various air attack weapons at ranges up to 15 kilometers and altitudes up to 12 kilometers.
