Exeed VX crossovers have begun to be produced at the former Mercedes-Benz plant in Russia. The first batch of 130 cars assembled in December last year did not go on sale. Russian-assembled crossovers turned out to be 50% more expensive than their Chinese "counterparts", according to industry experts.
No more than two thousand Exeeds will be produced by the end of the year. Chery Automobiles Rus has formed a team to handle localization, but, as they say, everything is still very scarce there, at the level of rugs and batteries.
The thing is that Chery (Exeed is a brand of this Chinese company) does not really welcome the localization of production, for example, even prohibiting the use of technical fluids produced in Russia.
The manufacturer of Exeed in Russia (Avtodom company) is trying to solve the issue of both localization and reducing the cost of car kits for assembling crossovers. Whether it will succeed remains to be seen.
Note that Exeed TXL and Exeed VX crossovers are planned to be assembled in Russia. Officials issued OTTS specifically for these models. The assembly plant is listed as MB Rus Manufacturing.
