A domestic BIOS system will appear in Russian computers. The company for its creation, called LLC "Bios-Defense," was opened in March 2024 by Dmitry Komissarov, the founder of the developer of software for stationary workplaces, "MyOffice."
According to the publication "Vedomosti," which refers to Komissarov, up to 80 million rubles will be invested in the project by the end of 2024. Twelve people are working on it, but the number of employees will grow to twenty-five specialists.
The first 30 million rubles have already been spent. And a product is already ready, which is undergoing beta testing with one of the Russian manufacturers of computer systems. It will be finalized by autumn and presented on the Russian market. Its capabilities and options have not yet been disclosed.
BIOS is a generic name for a software and hardware complex responsible for the initial loading of a computer. It loads its operating system and tests the hardware when the computer is turned on.
A domestic BIOS system will quite obviously be in demand. By 2025, all Russian state corporations and companies with state participation must switch to domestic software. The same requirement applies to critical infrastructure facilities: mobile operators, transport, and other companies.
"Bios-Defense" is not the only one creating a product in this direction. Numatech, RDW, and a number of other developers have announced their developments in this field.
