"Rosatom" sent key parts of the facility to China for the "Tianwan" NPP, the world's largest NPP being built according to the Russian project: the atomic reactor vessel and steam generators. Together, the VVER-1200 generation III+ atomic reactor vessel and two steam generators for the eighth power unit of the NPP weigh more than a thousand tons, and they will be delivered to the site by roads, rivers and sea.
The reactor is a vertical cylindrical vessel with an elliptical bottom, inside which the reactor core and in-core devices are located. The length of the reactor vessel is about 13 meters, the diameter is 4.5 meters, and the weight is 320 tons. From above, the equipment is hermetically sealed with a lid with drives for mechanisms and control and protection devices installed on it, as well as nozzles for вывод cables and sensors for in-reactor monitoring.
Steam generators are included in the reactor plant. These are heat exchange devices with a diameter of more than 4 meters, a length of about 15 meters, and a weight of 340 tons. One power unit of the NPP requires four steam generators.
Both types of equipment were produced at the "Atommash" plant in Volgodonsk, which is part of the machine-building division of "Rosatom". This enterprise produces complex equipment for almost all nuclear construction projects of the state corporation in Russia and abroad — in Bangladesh, India, China, Turkey and other countries.
