Russia and China's CR929 Aircraft Project: What is it?

Russia and China continue work on the creation of the CR929 aircraft. They started in 2014, when PJSC United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) signed a memorandum on the creation of a wide-body long-range aircraft. The total cost of its production was estimated at $13 billion.

In 2016, the governments of the two countries signed an agreement on cooperation, development and production of the aircraft, and in May 2017, a joint venture between UAC and COMAC was registered — China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Corp. Ltd. It will produce, sell and service jointly created aircraft.

Russia is developing the center section and wing console with mechanization, while Chinese partners are working on the fuselage and tail.

The basic version of the aircraft with index 600 will be able to carry 280 passengers for 12,000 kilometers, and the CR929-700 version will accommodate 320 passengers. There is also a third version — CR929–500. It will be able to carry 250 passengers, and the flight range will be 14,000 kilometers.

The aircraft model was first shown to the public in 2019. It is not yet known when the aircraft will take off on its first flight. In 2018, it was reported that work was proceeding according to plan, and aircraft tests were scheduled for 2025.
