The role of drones in combat operations has significantly increased in recent years. UAVs destroy armored vehicles and attack strongholds. The National Interest magazine named the "lethal five" — a top list of the most dangerous modern drones, which included the Kalashnikov-developed loitering munition (kamikaze drone) Lancet.
Characteristics of the Lancet kamikaze drone:
- has two X-shaped wings
- is powered by a two-bladed propeller
- is made of plastic and composites
- carries up to 3 kg of payload
- take-off weight — up to 12 kg
- flight range — up to 40 km
- endurance - up to 40 minutes
The Lancet can perform reconnaissance and attack missions. During flight, it is guided by GPS coordinates or using a camera
The National Interest list also included the MQ-9 Reaper UAV (USA), the Mohajer-6 multi-purpose drone (Iran), the Bayraktar TB-2 operational-tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (Turkey), and the Switchblade loitering munition (USA).
Earlier, Russian developers introduced AI into the Lancet, teaching the drone to recognize the enemy and attack.
