Employees of the Khlopin Radium Institute, which is part of Rosatom's scientific division, have come up with a new technology for producing a drug for the diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases.
The research institute has manufactured a pilot plant for the synthesis of a sorbent for the production of a new type of gallium-68 generators. With its help, it is possible to obtain a radiopharmaceutical for the accurate diagnosis of cancer.
Gallium-68 based radiopharmaceutical is used for the diagnosis of:
- neuroendocrine tumors
- myocardial perfusion
- prostate cancer
The press service emphasized that the installation can meet the needs of the Russian and foreign pharmaceutical markets. The improved sorbent synthesis technology meets the best world standards.
In addition to its diagnostic properties, the gallium-68 based radiopharmaceutical is suitable for cancer therapy. It has greater contrast and resolution when visualizing oncology.
