The Ministry of Defense has shown the protection of Russia's integrity from an unexpected angle. Repair units of a special group covering the state border are involved. Their mission is to continuously restore and modernize military equipment around the clock.
In several workshops of each such unit, specialists carry out minor repairs and maintenance of combat vehicles, and can also completely replace failed components and assemblies. They have everything at hand: from simple spare parts and gearboxes to fire control systems and turrets.
They work quickly and in shifts. For example, one of the UTD-20 engines, which is often installed on infantry fighting vehicles, can undergo a major overhaul in just one day. During this time, the engine will have its crankshaft, connecting rod and piston group, and camshafts replaced. After cold running-in, the engine is installed on the equipment, it continues to run-in in the field conditions of the training ground, after which it goes to the customer. The overall repair of any combat vehicle takes up to two days in total.
Earlier, the defense department showed the work of another of its unusual units. This is a shield for military trains and civilian trains — the Russian special train "Volga".
