The Project 20385 corvette "Provorny" is planned to be transferred to the Russian Navy in 2025. The ship, restored after the fire, will undergo factory and sea trials by the summer of next year and will be ready for delivery to the customer, a source in the shipbuilding industry told TASS. Confirmation of this information has not yet been received.
As a reminder, a fire occurred in December 2021 at the "Severnaya Verf" shipyard, where the "Provorny" was being built. The incident damaged the upper deck, the conning tower of the main command post, and the integrated mast structure of the corvette. Nevertheless, the commission investigating the causes and consequences of the fire concluded that the completion of the ship at the "Severnaya Verf" could still continue. The new superstructure was installed on the hull in November 2022 — it was manufactured for the "Provorny" at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant.
The "Provorny" corvette was laid down in 2013. It should become the second in the series of Project 20385 corvettes. The lead corvette of this project, "Gremyashchy," is already in service with the Pacific Fleet.
Project 20385 corvettes were developed on the basis of Project 20380 ships, with differences including a lengthened hull and a universal shipborne complex 3S14. Multipurpose corvettes of this project are designed to detect and destroy enemy submarines and surface ships in the near sea zone, provide landing support, protect the coastal zone, and escort other ships.
The main armament of Project 20385 corvettes consists of "Caliber" cruise missiles. It is expected that new anti-ship hypersonic cruise missiles "Zircon" will also be deployed on ships of this project in accordance with the state armament program for 2018–2027. The Russian Navy estimates the need for ships of this project at 18 units.
